MABAMBA(One Day)

Day 1:

Travel to Mabamba swamp for the Shoebill. We shall stop at Mpigi swamp to try for the papyrus gonolek, an elusive swamp bird. We shall continue to Mabamba Swamp and get on an engine-powered canoe to navigate the channels of the swamp looking for the Shoebill. Other special birds to look out for include: Lesser Jacana, Blue Swallow, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Papyrus Gonolek, White-winged Warbler, Tit Hylia, African Pygmy-Goose, Spur-winged Goose, Long-toed Lapwing, Blue-breasted and Madagascar Bee-eaters, Greater Swamp-Warbler, Slender-billed Weaver, Lizard Buzzard, African Pygmy-Kingfisher and Plain-backed Pipit. Spot-necked Otter can occasionally be seen in the water.We shall have lunch at Nkima lodge as well as have a walk around the lodge to see what forest species

we can pick up.
We shall return to Kampala later in the afternoon.

 

LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK (3 Days)

Day 1: Travel to Lake Mburo

After an early breakfast, proceed to Mabamba for the Shoebill. Other special birds on this trail include Lesser Jacana, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Papyrus Gonolek, White-winged Warbler, Tit Hylia, African Pygmy- Goose, Spur-winged Goose, Long-toed Lapwing, Blue-breasted and Madagascar Bee-eaters, Greater Swamp Warbler, Slender-billed Weaver, Lizard Buzzard, African Pygmy Kingfisher and Plain-backed
Pipit. Spot-necked Otter can occasionally be seen in the water. Mabamba swamp is a labyrinth of channels and lagoons. The road to Mabamba winds its way through areas of secondary forest and agricultural land Attracting Red-headed Lovebird, Crowned-Hornbills, Green-headed, Red-chested, Collared, Marico and Scarlet-chested
Sunbirds. The road ultimately ends at a papyrus reedbed Adjoining Lake Victoria, where we will explore by canoe a maze of channels and mudflats for a reliable resident, the majestic Shoebill. In the afternoon, we shall continue west and have a stop at the Equator before proceeding to Lake Mburo National Park.

Day 2: Boat Cruise & Game Drive

Whole day birding and game drive in the park and afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo.
After breakfast, we shall have a game drive through the park where we have chances of viewing animals such as: Zebra, Topi, Elephant, Eland, Impala, Buffalo, Water Buck, etc. Birds you have chances of viewing
include Black-headed Oriole, Red-backed Scrub Robin, Bateleur, Ruppell's Starling, Common Bulbul, Brown Parrot, Ruppell's Griffon, African Grey Hornbill, White-browed Coucal, Lesser-masked Weaver, Water Thick-knee, African Wood-Hoopoe, Verreux's Eagle Owl, Woodland Kingfisher, Yellow-billed Oxpecker, Little Bee-eater, Chinspot Batis, Tawny Eagle, Senegal Lapwing, Plain-backed Pipit, Greater Honeyguide, Sooty Chat, Tawny-flanked Prinia, Red-faced Crombec, Wattled and Bronze-tailed Starlings, Brubru, Grey Kestrel, Coqui Francolin, Broad-billed Roller, Grassland Pipit, and Golden- breasted Bunting. We shall head back for lunch and then have an afternoon boat cruise on the lake where we have chances of seeing the African Finfoot. Other bird species to look out fo include: White backed Night Heron, Shinning blue Kingfisher, Papyrus Gonolek, Carruther’ cisticola, Giant Kingfisher etc.

Day 3:

Return to Kampala

 

KIBALE NATIONAL PARK (5 Days)

Day 1: Drive to Kibale

After breakfast, we will drive to Kibale forest. Kibale forest national park is the best safari destination for chimpanzee tracking in East Africa. It contains one of the loveliest and most varied tracts of all tropical forests in Uganda. It hosts 13 species of primates including the chimpanzee. It has about 1450 chimpanzees, which represent Uganda’s largest population of this endangered primate. It is also home to the rare L’hoest’s monkey and East Africa’s largest population of the threatened Uganda Red Colobus monkey. Other primates that you may see include the Mantled Guereza, Blue monkey, Uganda Mangabey, Red-tailed Monkey, Olive Baboon, Galagos and Pottos. Kibale forest cover predominates in the northern and central parts of the park. Kibale is highest at the park’s northern tip which stands at 1590m above sea level. The Park also boasts 325 bird species. If you are lucky you may also see the African pitta, Green-breasted pitta, Black bee-eater, Yellow-spotted Nicator, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, Little Greenbul, Brown-chested Alethe, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, and the Crowned eagle.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking

Day 3: Birding in Bigodi and in the afternoon visit Amabeere caves

We shall have breakfast and head out to Bigodi which is very productive with riverine forest species like the White-spotted Flufftail, Brown Illadopsis, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Little,Plain, Slender-billed and Toro-
olive Greenbuls etc. We shall have lunch and then head to Amabeere Ga Nyinamwiru caves. Stay at Home-bliss Hotel

Day 4: Move to Semliki National Park for Sempaya Hot springs and Birding

Semliki has 441 recorded bird species representing 40% of Uganda’s total bird species and 66% of the country’s forest bird species. One should hope to see species such as ;Nkulengu Rail,Yellow-throated Cuckoo,Piping Hornbill,Red-billed Dwarf Hornbill,Red-rumped Tinkerbird, African Piculet,White-throated Blue Swallow, Yellow- throated Nicator,Leaf-love, Swamp Palm Bulbul and more different bird species
